Saudi Arabia pauses airstrikes against Houthis as Oman brokers fresh talks

Saudi Arabia has paused its airstrike campaign against Houthi forces in Yemen and reopened diplomatic channels through Oman, aiming to prevent further escalation. Houthi forces had threatened a naval blockade on Saudi-affiliated vessels transiting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most critical oil transit corridors. Saudi Aramco, the backbone of the kingdom’s fiscal revenues, would face direct operational risk if interdiction of shipping lanes became a reality. The Yemen conflict, which began in 2015, saw renewed deterioration by July 2026 after Houthi forces targeted Saudi oil infrastructure in response to coalition strikes. Crypto market analysts identified the blockade threat as a potential catalyst for renewed safe-haven demand, with Bitcoin increasingly viewed as a geopolitical hedge.
