A South Korean appeals court sentenced a former Samsung Electronics employee to five years in prison for leaking information about its DRAM manufacturing technologies to the Chinese competitor CXMT. The sentence is two years shorter than the seven-year term imposed at his first trial in April. The employee, identified as Jeon, spent nearly three decades at Samsung before joining CXMT in 2016 and allegedly provided a document detailing about 600 manufacturing steps developed through five years of work and more than 1 trillion won in spending. According to prosecutors, he received about 2.9 billion won over six years, partly through stock options. At least 10 people have been charged, while CXMT has reportedly recruited at least 27 former engineers from Samsung and SK Hynix.
