Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3, says the remaining shortfall of about 600 BTC on the Liquid Network will be fully covered in the coming days. As of October 27, 2026, the federation held roughly 3,649 BTC against 4,249 L-BTC in circulation, representing 85.88% coverage. The gap stems from an exploit of an Elements flaw on September 6, 2026, which enabled the creation of about 4,000 L-BTC without backing. The attackers subsequently returned 3,400 BTC, while Blockstream pledged to cover the difference so the losses would not be passed on to users. Direct withdrawals remain suspended until full 1:1 backing is restored, although third-party swaps are still partially available.
