Russia’s central bank authorized Sberbank, the country’s largest lender, to trade cryptocurrencies on October 12, six days after listing it as a digital depository. The bank plans to launch its first crypto products (Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT) on December 1 via SberBank Online, SberInvestments and SberBusiness. Retail buyers will face an annual spending cap of 300,000 rubles per intermediary and a mandatory knowledge test. Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov forecast trading volumes could reach 4 trillion rubles (roughly $46 billion) in the first year and 7.5 trillion rubles by 2029. While purchasing crypto will be allowed, using it to pay for goods remains illegal in Russia.
