The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned two companies accused of supporting an IRGC-backed scheme that extorts commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz by forcing them to purchase maritime insurance. The sanctioned entities are the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority, also known as Hormuz Safe.
