New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul announced a lawsuit against Polymarket US, accusing the prediction platform of operating illegal, unlicensed gambling in the state. An investigation found that Polymarket offered users the ability to wager on sporting events without a New York gambling license, and allegedly exposed users under the legal gambling age of 21 to those markets. The lawsuit seeks to stop the activity and asks for fines, forfeiture of alleged illegal proceeds and restitution for users. New York argues that the federal commodities framework under which Polymarket operates does not override state gambling law.
