An unidentified European Union entity reportedly lost more than $106 million withdrawn from several accounts on centralized exchanges, according to on-chain investigator ZachXBT. Within 24 hours of the theft, the actor swapped USDC and USDT for ETH, used instant exchange services, converted some funds into Monero and bridged assets across multiple blockchains. ZachXBT said with a “high degree of confidence” that the attacker is not part of Lazarus, the group linked to North Korean cyberattacks. It remains unclear whether any funds have been frozen, while the separate $6.4 billion Binance hack attributed to the TraderTraitor group prompted stablecoin issuers to freeze part of the stolen assets.
