A French family, including two children aged 8 and 12, was tied up and held captive at their home in Vendin-le-Vieil, Pas-de-Calais, by four masked suspects during the night of September 19-20. The father, who works in the cryptocurrency industry, was assaulted and forced to transfer approximately 40,000 euros worth of cryptocurrency under threat. The suspects fled and remain at large. The interior ministry reported that France had recorded 77 cases of kidnapping, unlawful detention, extortion, or attempted attacks linked to cryptocurrency since the beginning of 2026, with around 200 arrests. This case is part of a wave of physical attacks targeting the French crypto community, including the abduction of Ledger co-founder David Balland, who had a finger cut off during his ordeal.
