S&P Global has announced the acquisition of OpenZeppelin, a smart contract security firm whose open-source code library has secured over $37 trillion in transactions. Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin has completed over 900 security engagements, including the detection in 2021 of a flaw threatening $15 billion in deposits on Convex Finance. OpenZeppelin will retain its name and CEO Demian Brener, becoming a standalone unit within S&P Global. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is not expected to have a material impact on S&P Global’s financial results. This acquisition aligns with S&P Global’s tokenization strategy, which launched crypto indices in 2021 and follows the SEC’s opening to secondary trading of tokenized securities on public blockchains.
