U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila said on October 14, 2026, that he is “highly likely” to grant Apple a preliminary injunction against OpenAI, io Products, and two former Apple employees. Apple accuses the defendants of orchestrating the theft of confidential hardware knowledge, including product designs and manufacturing processes, to accelerate OpenAI’s consumer hardware development. OpenAI acquired io Products for approximately $6.4 billion in 2025 and plans to release a high-end speaker in 2027. OpenAI has denied the allegations, labeling them as groundless and retaliatory. The formal injunction ruling, the scope of any restrictions, and the outcome of early depositions of Tang Yew Tan and Chang Liu will be pivotal to the case.
