Google opened AI video generation in 1080p to all Google Vids users on September 23 via vids.new, powered by the Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. The tool creates videos from text, photos, audio or existing clips with scene extension, custom duration and upscaling to HD, each video bearing a SynthID watermark. Generation takes approximately 30 seconds and is now available on all Google accounts, with differentiated quotas depending on account type. This free rollout coincides with OpenAI Sora API shutting down permanently, in a context where Google has already cut its Veo 3.1 Lite API price to $0.05 per second. Other players like Kling and Hunyuan Video are also applying pricing pressure from the Chinese competitor side.
