Google, operating through its Mandiant subsidiary, infiltrated the TeamPCP hacker group by placing an undercover analyst inside their private communication channel. The group compromised over 1,000 organizations, stole more than 500,000 credentials, and exfiltrated at least 300 GB of data through a software supply-chain attack targeting popular open-source packages. Remediation costs across affected organizations are estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Two alleged members, Ruben Ian Thomson and Louis Michael Gaebler, were arrested by the Australian Federal Police and the FBI, facing a combined 14 charges covering hacking offenses and money laundering.
