Google DeepMind and GovTech Singapore unveil on-device AI tool to fight chat scams

Share

On October 14, 2026, Minister Josephine Teo announced a collaboration between GovTech and Google DeepMind to develop an AI tool running directly on users’ devices. The system uses Google’s Gemma models to analyze private conversations in real time and detect manipulative tactics employed by scammers. All data processing occurs locally with zero cloud data egress, an approach designed to preserve user trust. The initiative is part of Singapore’s broader anti-scam strategy, which already includes the SATIS system (disrupting 20,000 malicious websites per month) and rMSE (scanning over 600,000 websites daily). No launch date or performance metrics have been disclosed.
