Singapore continues to grapple with severe haze as smoke from wildfires in neighboring Indonesia drifts into the city-state. Air quality turned unhealthy on September 4, the first time in nearly three years, and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong warned that the government could take legal action against companies responsible for the forest and peatland fires. The haze is disrupting daily life and businesses: Marina Bay Sands has suspended outdoor experiences, restaurants have reported a drop in business, and Seletar Airport has seen 16 flight diversions. The ongoing Singapore International Cyber Week, hosting a record more than 15,000 visitors from over 100 countries, has been affected by the haze, with Minister Josephine Teo saying it was not the best way to welcome international guests. Malaysia has offered to deploy water bombers and other resources, with Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan stating that the haze requires a coordinated ASEAN response.
