Jay Clayton, former SEC chairman who authorized the lawsuit against Ripple, has been appointed U.S. Director of National Intelligence after a narrow Senate confirmation vote (51-47). He filed the lawsuit against Ripple on December 22, 2020, his final day at the regulatory agency. Since then, the company secured several major courtroom victories that forced the SEC to revise its crypto enforcement strategy. After leaving the SEC, Clayton joined several crypto companies and has advocated for clear rules on stablecoins, decentralized finance and Bitcoin exchange-traded products.
