Former FBI Agent Pleads Guilty to Stealing $2.47 Million in Crypto From Investigations

Patrick Steven Yaroch, 37, pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing $2,474,380.66 in cryptocurrency by using wallet credentials collected by the FBI. He made roughly 100 fraudulent transfers involving 35 separate investigations, then converted the stolen funds into other digital assets and took further steps to obscure their origin. Yaroch also used some of the money to repay debts and prepared for relocation to Portugal, granting Portuguese lawyers power of attorney to obtain a tax identification number and access to his financial portal. He faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4, 2027; the damage to the compromised investigations and the gap between his self-report and the admitted theft total remain unresolved.
