Filecoin Plans to Shift Block Rewards Toward Paid Storage

Share

Filecoin has announced a plan to overhaul its block reward mechanism through proposal FIP-0118. This proposal calls for a gradual reduction of the consensus share of block rewards, dropping from 95% to a floor of 50% over approximately nine quarters. Meanwhile, any service share left unearned by miners will be burned. This change aims to redirect economic incentives toward providing paid storage services rather than relying solely on consensus rewards.
