Envision’s Galaxy datacenter shows how fast China is building AI infrastructure

Share

Envision began commercial operations at its Galaxy AI datacenter in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, in August 2026. The campus, powered mainly by wind and solar, targets 3 GW of capacity by the end of 2028 and is designed to accommodate up to one million AI accelerators, with anticipated computing capacity of one million PFLOPS. Roughly 120 MW has already been commissioned, while a 200 MW phase is expected to be handed over by late October 2026 and further deliveries are planned for 2027. More than 80% of the electricity is expected to come from renewable sources, and the site uses an integrated commercial 800-volt direct-current power system designed for live AI workloads. The project is the flagship of Envision’s Mission Gobi initiative, which aims to build 5 GW of green AI datacenter capacity worldwide by 2030.
