Elon Musk once said the Cybertruck would be Tesla’s ‘best product ever.’ Now he’s winding down production

Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2026 to make room for increased Cybercab production, Elon Musk announced on X. Seven years after its launch, the electric pickup starting at $92,490 has failed to match the popularity of the Model Y and Model 3: Tesla sold 38,965 units in the United States in 2024 and 20,237 in 2025, a 48% decline. The company is now betting on the autonomous Cybercab, whose first vehicles hit the roads in Austin in September, although federal vehicle safety regulators have opened an investigation into its certification. The Cybertruck has also been subject to 11 recalls since November 2023, while the discontinuation of its cheapest version and several price increases have pushed the minimum price to $92,490.
