EIP-8037 state-gas rules force Ethereum dApps to rewrite billing

Share

Ethereum developers are asking application teams to test eight gas assumptions related to the proposed rules for the Glamsterdam upgrade because internal audits cannot cover every contract and off-chain service. EIP-8037 would increase the cost of creating persistent data, while EIP-8038 would reprice access to existing state and modifications, with the goal of supporting higher throughput while limiting state growth. The rules could distort relayer reimbursements and make some wallet authorizations reusable after a failed transaction, exposing users to underbilling or account takeover. Hoodi’s planned October 26 activation and accompanying 200 million gas-limit increase were postponed on October 22, while the mainnet activation date remains unset. Projects must now document affected settings, required upgrades, possible migrations and repair timelines to help developers determine whether the specification needs changes.
