DogeOS, the application layer built by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, launched a public testnet on September 30, 2026. This zero-knowledge rollup solution compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine allows developers to build smart contract applications with gas fees payable in DOGE. Projects such as Barkswap and Superposition Finance are already building on this testnet. The OP_CHECKZKP protocol, submitted to Dogecoin Core in July 2025, aims to add native support for verifying zero-knowledge proofs directly on Dogecoin. If applications on DogeOS attract users, every transaction will require DOGE for gas fees, which could create a new source of demand for the cryptocurrency.
