Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has moved its AI agent framework off the terminal and onto the desktop, releasing Harness v0.2 on September 29, 2026, about seven weeks after the developer preview. The open-source app, released under the MIT license, runs locally and focuses on three tasks: organizing files, analyzing data, and writing code. While the core software is free, using it requires a DeepSeek account or API keys, and it connects to the company’s DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash model. Official builds cover macOS (both Apple silicon and Intel) and Windows, while Linux support currently relies on community builds. As of early October 2026, the Harness GitHub repository had approximately 242,000 stars and 29,000 forks.
