Physical attacks and kidnappings targeting cryptocurrency holders are increasing in France, now affecting a wider range of profiles beyond just well-known entrepreneurs. Expert Remi D’Alise, former Head of Product at Ledger, recommends reducing one’s digital footprint by using aliases, making social media accounts private, and avoiding linking one’s home address to crypto activities. He also advises segmenting wealth by keeping 90 to 95% of funds in bank safes or separate locations, with only 5 to 10% in an accessible wallet for daily use. Several platforms including Swissborg, Coinbase, OKX, Bybit, and Kraken offer timelock mechanisms imposing withdrawal delays of 24 to 48 hours, making coerced transfers more difficult. No solution is foolproof, but these measures can significantly reduce personal exposure.
