A $100 price hike may be all it takes to scare off iPhone buyers in this economy, as Apple reportedly slashes orders

Apple has told some suppliers to cut production of components for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with October component orders at least 15% below original requests. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, each representing a $100 increase from previous models. This price hike comes amid surging memory chip costs, with J.P. Morgan estimating DRAM prices will rise more than 400% from early 2024 through the end of 2026. IDC forecasts global smartphone shipments will fall 16.7% in 2026, the steepest annual decline on record. Apple has not confirmed these reported order reductions, which represent a first major test for new CEO John Ternus.
