Core DAO plans emergency hard fork after validators draw excess rewards

Core DAO, the organization behind the Layer 1 blockchain Core, is planning an emergency hard fork after a small group of validators exploited a flaw in the reward distribution mechanism to mint CORE tokens beyond protocol limits. User assets and network security remain unaffected according to the project, but several exchanges have taken precautionary measures, with Coinbase suspending CORE sends and receives and LBank suspending deposits. The CORE cryptocurrency has a hard cap of 2.1 billion tokens with approximately 40% allocated to node mining rewards over an 81-year period. The exact volume of excess tokens minted during the exploit remains undetermined, leaving traders in the dark about the token’s actual supply dynamics.
