CNBC’s The China Connection newsletter: Nvidia’s humanoid push relies on China-made robot hands

Share

In just a few months, Nvidia has unveiled two humanoid robot training packages: one with mechanical hands from Sharpa and another with hands from Wuji, two companies connected to founders in Shanghai. The Agile One SN system, developed by Agile Robots with Nvidia’s Isaac software and Jetson Thor computing platform, is expected to become available to researchers at Stanford and ETH Zurich in early 2027. Nvidia’s humanoid reference design announced in May combines a body from Unitree with hands from Sharpa and was scheduled for delivery from late 2026, but the company did not clarify whether shipments have begun. Google DeepMind research lead Keerthana Gopalakrishnan said the Sharpa Wave is stronger than the Wuji Hand 2, while JoyIn founder Zhu Mingxuan described the latter as lightweight and effective but prone to overheating. The newsletter also reports that China’s large industrial companies posted 14.4% higher profits in September on a yearly basis and that Pop Mart’s third-quarter revenue fell by 45% to 50%.
