Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1 has taken the top spot on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index with a score of 66, surpassing over 192 competing models. The model costs roughly 20% more per task than its predecessor, averaging $3.69 versus $3.08 to $3.25 for Fable 5. This increase is driven by much longer outputs on complex tasks, reaching up to 140 million output tokens, despite seemingly identical pricing: $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Anthropic has cut cache read prices by 75%, dropping from $1 to $0.25 per million tokens, which benefits repetitive, data-heavy workloads. For enterprises, balancing savings on repetitive tasks against higher costs on complex reasoning has become a major budget consideration.
