China slaps export controls on 10 US firms in escalating drone and tech war

China added 10 US companies to its export control list on June 22. The targeted firms include Red Cat Holdings, Teal Drones, L3Harris, and USA Rare Earth. They are now barred from sourcing Chinese drones, robotic hardware, and swarm software. This measure is a direct response to the FCC’s December 2025 ban on imports from Chinese drone giants DJI and Autel Robotics. Stricter drone export scrutiny will take effect on August 5, 2026. China controls the vast majority of global rare earth processing, materials essential for semiconductors and hardware used in crypto mining and data centers.
