A user named Alex lost 1,904,513 FXRP tokens, worth approximately $2.1 million, after clicking a link to a fake staking site (sceptre.network instead of sceptre.fi) recommended by ChatGPT. The attack exploited an unlimited approval signature the victim had signed on their wallet, allowing a malicious contract to drain the funds on June 12 around 7 pm UTC. This amount represents 1.3% of the total FXRP supply. The receiving wallet, active since April 23, has received at least four different Flare tokens, suggesting other victims were targeted by the same phishing infrastructure. On-chain investigator Val estimates the total stolen by this setup exceeds $2.2 million.
