Broadcom is now acting as a lender by arranging large debt packages to help leading AI labs purchase its custom chips and associated infrastructure. The planned financing package for Anthropic amounts to approximately $60 billion, with a $42 billion senior secured tranche backed by Broadcom and an $18 billion junior tranche led by Blackstone. The group has committed up to $42 billion in convertible notes for Anthropic as part of a broader partnership with Apollo and Blackstone aimed at financing more than 20 gigawatts of AI infrastructure by 2028. Negotiations are also underway with OpenAI for a potential $30 billion to $50 billion package to support its Nexus chip program. Combined commitments for Anthropic and OpenAI could exceed $92 billion, while external financing needs for AI data-center infrastructure are estimated at $1.5 trillion through 2028.
