Block, the parent company of Square, Cash App, and Afterpay, has integrated OpenAI technology into its core security operations through a system called Daybreak. The system automates vulnerability discovery, threat detection, and incident response, with AI handling signal correlation and drafting reports for human review. Block reports an approximately 50% increase in triage throughput and automates roughly 1,100 analyst-hours of investigations per quarter, plus 600 analyst-hours recovered from false positive triage. In red-team exercises, Daybreak completed full attack-path chaining in about 2 hours and proposed a patch in 18 minutes. No patch is deployed without human verification, a guardrail deemed essential for a company handling financial flows.
