According to Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan, the top 20 crypto assets have a median performance of -15% year to date. Their average return is nevertheless positive, at +14%, because gains are concentrated in a few assets. Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Zcash (ZEC) were specifically identified as the assets pulling the average higher. Hougan shared the figures on X on November 2, 2026, without publishing an official report or the full list of individual performance figures. The data show that a market with a positive average can still have more losers than winners among its most liquid assets.
