Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company pulls plug on SPAC merger, chooses to stay private

Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company, the firm led by Adam Back, officially terminated its merger with Cantor Equity Partners I on August 20, 2026, abandoning its planned Nasdaq listing valued at approximately $4 billion. The company had assembled an initial balance sheet of approximately 30,021 BTC, including 25,000 BTC from founders and 5,021 BTC through in-kind PIPE financing, within a total PIPE structure of up to $1.5 billion. The shareholder vote, repeatedly postponed, was originally scheduled for June or July 2026 before being indefinitely delayed. Chief Investment Officer Sean Bill confirmed the firm will remain private until market conditions and internal structure improve, while leaving the door open for future public market ambitions. CEO Adam Back and the executive team, including President Katherine Dowling and CFO Bob Stefanowski, view this decision as a temporary pause rather than a permanent exit.
