The mining operation was powered by an illegal electrical connection to the grid, with assistance from the national electricity provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The case falls under Section 427 of the Malaysian Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, which allows the provider to claim payment for lost revenue. This seizure is part of a series of similar operations in Perak, where 168 machines had been recovered on August 31st and 62 others in July. The amount of electricity stolen has not been disclosed and the responsibility of the two men remains to be determined.
