Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday, a model that matches Fable 5.1 on most tasks while costing 20% less than Opus 5 and 60% less than Fable 5.1. Input token pricing drops to $4 per million from $5, and output tokens fall to $20 from $25. On coding and knowledge-work benchmarks, Opus 5.5 outperforms Fable 5.1 with a score of 1846 versus 1735 on GDPval-AA v2.1 and 66.4% versus 55.8% on Terminal-Bench 4.0. It remains behind GPT-6 Astra on AutomationBench and Terminal-Bench-Science 0.1. This release marks the first model Anthropic has shipped since CEO Dario Amodei called on the industry to slow AI capability gains.
