Total US household wealth has surged from approximately $101 trillion to $185 trillion, but this growth has been distributed very unevenly in favor of asset owners. The dollar has lost roughly 23% of its purchasing power since 2020, and inflation has remained above the Fed’s 2% target for 60 consecutive months. In this context, bitcoin offers an accessible alternative for acquiring a scarce, deflationary asset, but its extreme volatility and lack of cash flow make it unable to rebuild the American middle class.
