Amazon pulled a $4 ‘sterling silver’ ring that was 92% cancer-causing cadmium. A jewelry expert warns it’s back

A British jewelry consultant discovered that a ring sold for £3.39 on Amazon and advertised as 925 sterling silver was actually approximately 92.3% cadmium, exceeding the U.K.’s legal limit of 0.01% by more than 9,000 times. Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal classified as a known human carcinogen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The £3.39 price tag should have raised red flags, as silver is roughly 300 times more expensive than cadmium by weight. Amazon removed the ring identified in September after being contacted by Fortune. A similar ring was also found on Amazon’s U.S. website priced at $4.99.
