Dave Wehner will leave Meta on Friday to join Fireworks, an AI inference and model-training startup founded in 2022 by former Meta and Google employees. He will serve as the company’s chief financial officer and be responsible for scaling its financial and operational activities; Fireworks was valued at $17.5 billion during a Series D funding round in July. The startup, backed by Nvidia and Sequoia Capital, is reportedly in early talks to raise additional funding at a valuation of $30 billion to $40 billion. Wehner joined Meta in 2012 and served as its chief financial officer from 2014 to 2022; Fireworks also disclosed a limited security incident in October, with no evidence of unauthorized access to customer models, training data, personal information or inference traffic.
