Zcash’s NU7 upgrade, expected within 24 hours, will reduce the time between blocks from 75 to 25 seconds while preserving its reward-reduction schedule. The upgrade will also close the Sprout privacy pool, which was launched in 2016 and has since been replaced by newer systems. Sprout still contains 12,225 ZEC worth more than $16 million, which will become inaccessible after the rejection of the v4 transaction format, even for holders with their private keys. About 10,000 ZEC were withdrawn during the previous week, while only around 40 have left the pool since November 4. The frozen funds will remain included in Zcash’s circulating supply, and a future upgrade could eventually restore access, without any guarantee.
