Polygon Proposes Hard Fork to Restore 70 Million POL Stolen from Polymarket and Binance

Share

Polygon proposed a hard fork to reset five addresses controlled by attackers and restore 70.49 million POL to the Polymarket and Binance platforms. Four addresses held 23.86 million POL stolen from Polymarket, while the fifth held 46.63 million POL taken from Binance. The total POL supply would remain unchanged, staking contracts and bridges would be preserved, and the 6.19 million USDT frozen by Tether would remain outside the proposal. The proposal is scheduled for review during a governance call on November 5, followed by client development, testing on the Amoy test network and possible activation on the main network. The recovery represents about $6.5 million, barely one-thousandth of the $6.3 billion stolen in the Binance hack, but it raises questions about blockchain integrity and immutability.
