OpenAI announced on November 4, 2026, the general availability of its GPT-Live outbound telephony API. Developers can now connect voice agents to real phone numbers through compatible SIP trunk providers, including Telnyx, Twilio, and Ozonetel. The full-duplex calls support simultaneous speaking and listening, as well as HD Voice and bidirectional DTMF signaling for navigating phone menus. The API costs $0.05 per minute, in addition to charges from the telephony and telecom providers. OpenAI retains control of audio processing and session logic, while external partners handle connections to the public telephone network.
