Gate froze two accounts after receiving approximately $250,000 in funds attributed to the hacker behind the Binance theft. The transfers were detected by Lookonchain, which has been tracking the attacker’s addresses since the beginning of the incident. Splitting the proceeds into smaller deposits was likely intended to circumvent manual reviews on centralized platforms. The freeze gives investigators access to the account holders’ identities, registration documents and complete deposit history. Bybit and its partners had already used this approach after the theft of $1.46 billion in ether on February 21, 2025.
