Bithumb is investigating a data leak following the hacking of its internal mobile system, which employees use to communicate and share information. The exchange discovered the breach on Tuesday and notified the Korea Internet and Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission the same day. The exact scope of the leak remains unconfirmed, including whether customer data was involved. Bithumb says its internal system is separate from its trading platform, meaning customer crypto holdings cannot be accessed through the breach. Separately, 16 South Korean financial firms had been attacked as of October 14, including Daishin Securities, where data from 38,490 customers leaked, and Mirae Asset Global Investments, which blocked abnormal external access without reporting any impact on investor information.
