Base plans 200ms block times with Denim mainnet upgrade

Share

Coinbase is preparing a Base upgrade to reduce block time from two seconds to 200 milliseconds, or five blocks per second, on its mainnet. The Denim activation is targeted for November 2026, after the upgrade was deployed on the Base Sepolia testnet on October 21, 2026. The change would increase daily block production from 43,200 to 432,000 and replace Flashblocks preconfirmations with faster canonical blocks. Indexers, data platforms and application developers will need to migrate to the new block and RPC feeds, with RPC call volume projected to grow roughly tenfold.
