Discord will make certain messages from public servers available in Google search results to make information easier to find as communities move away from traditional message boards. The change could affect cryptocurrency communities: Cointelegraph identified nearly 800 servers tagged “cryptocurrency,” around 1,400 tagged “trading” and more than 700 tagged “finance,” out of over 63,000 discoverable servers. Users can opt out until the rollout begins in mid-December, and the feature will be disabled by default in Australia, the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK, Canada, Brazil and South Korea, while teen users will be excluded. Opting out after the launch will only protect messages sent from that point onward, while previously eligible messages may remain in search engine caches for some time. Server administrators can also hide individual channels or entire servers from public web pages and search results, and can separately disable discussion summaries scheduled to begin rolling out in November.
