Crypto Midterm Election Spending Reaches $176 Million as Industry Builds for the Next Congress

The crypto industry has spent about $176 million across more than 100 midterm races, including $150.8 million by Fairshake and roughly $25 million by other groups, according to a Reuters review. Fairshake, which spent $196 million in 2024, is seeking to build a bipartisan coalition in Congress to protect the sector after President Donald Trump leaves office; 53 of the 58 candidates it backed in primaries or special elections won. Its advertisements, run through affiliated committees, often focus on taxes and immigration rather than crypto, while Coinbase, Ripple and Andreessen Horowitz are the primary financiers. Growing congressional support accompanied the enactment of the GENIUS Act in 2025, the first federal regulatory framework for stablecoins, but the Clarity Act, which would place oversight under the CFTC, was blocked in the Senate over an ethics provision requiring the Trump family to sell its crypto holdings. In September 2026, 22% of U.S. adults said they had owned or used crypto, up from 18% in 2025.
