Anthropic’s IPO prospectus reveals a total commitment of $542 billion to $567 billion for future compute and infrastructure, including a $417 billion deal signed on December 31, 2025, with multiple providers and additional capacity worth $125 billion to $150 billion between 2028 and 2031. Compute is its largest operating expense, costing $5.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026, compared with revenue of $11.6 billion during the same period. To reduce its dependence on Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, Anthropic is launching Anthropic Direct, a strategy focused on building its own data centers, with lease commitments totaling $125.2 billion over five years. The strategy is expected to provide long-term economic advantages, but it exposes the company to significant cash outflows, delays, cost overruns, and difficulties securing power and equipment.
