Start-up X Pay has raised $1 million to develop a payment layer for autonomous agents and APIs. Its solution uses Coinbase’s x402 standard to settle each call in USDC on Base, without requiring users to open an account or distribute an API key. The approach targets micropayments, which are incompatible with the $0.30 fixed card fee and the 2.9% transaction fee charged by card networks. X Pay is competing with Google’s AP2, Visa’s Intelligent Commerce, Mastercard’s Agent Pay, and the blockchain projects developed by Stripe and Paradigm.
