Sovereign wealth funds invested $14.2 billion in mainland China and Hong Kong during the first nine months of 2026, a 190% increase compared with the entire year 2025. The rebound follows a 54% decline in 2025 and is driven mainly by four Gulf funds, which account for nearly 70% of sovereign capital invested in the region. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund contributed $6 billion, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority $2.5 billion, Mubadala $800 million and Qatar Investment Authority $600 million. Sovereign investors are focusing particularly on Chinese technology, biotechnology, consumer businesses and advanced manufacturing, while the United States remains the leading destination with $132.4 billion invested over the same period.
