Crypto: Stablecoins Move $400 Million per Hour

Share

Stablecoins recorded $891 billion in adjusted transfers in the third quarter of 2026, averaging more than $400 million per hour, according to a study by Coinbase and The Block Pro Research. Over the twelve months ending on July 31, 73% of the analyzed volume circulated outside US banking hours, while sending $200 in USDC on Base costs approximately 86% less than the traditional services compared. Adjusted volumes have quadrupled since early 2023 and could approach $1.5 trillion per quarter by the end of 2027, assuming constant growth. Seven of the ten largest US banks have tested stablecoins or tokenized deposits, and 293 million addresses hold them. The study also identifies artificial intelligence agents as a potential use case and estimates that 80% adoption in international transactions would generate a net annual gain of $155 billion for global GDP under the report’s assumptions.
